The Art of Online Dating
Online dating is a great way to meet someone new and begin what perhaps can become a really meaningful relationship, but there is a certain art to online dating. Because the entire relationship is started online instead of face to face there are several different things that must be considered because they are dealt with differently than if you were dating traditionally. Even more confusing is the fact that over the past several years online dating has taken on a certain something of its own making the ability to date successfully online a type of art form.
From the very start there is the online dating profile, which is an art form in its own right. In just a few short lines you are expected to show personality, speak your mind about what it is you want, and try to come off as normal. Might sound easy, but it is very difficult for most people to accomplish, even with a little help. The one piece of advice that I always fall back on is to avoid being so narrow in your expectations and in your description of yourself.
That first email or message to a prospective online partner is also important because it is the first real impression of yourself you are giving them. Even though you may think that there is an art to this, it is really just allowing yourself to be yourself, but on your best behavior. Make sure that your initial message is easy to read and follow, there is no need to go on and on, but just a simple online hello will suffice. At the same time it is important that you are not pushy or insincere in your first message, and those that will hopefully follow, because there is nothing that will chase away a man or a woman quicker than being able to smell a phony a mile away. Never try to hide other relationships for you might get caught with a private investagator or a reverse cell phone lookup directory to find cell phone number from suspicious callers.
Once you have begun talking to a potential date in the online world, it is important that you are honest and upfront in everything you expect and want from this relationship from the start. Most online daters will get straight to asking to make sure that they are not wasting their time or just to feel you out and see how honest you are about your expectations in a relationship. It is always best to speak up and be as frank as you possible can.
Most importantly though, a little patience and the right approach are key to a successful online dating life, so liberally dole out each one.
